Cargo companies charge using the desi (volumetric weight) formula. Unnecessary space inside the bag increases the desi value even if the physical weight is low.

Practical steps:

Perform fill testing for the top 10 shipped SKUs; Measure product + padding + invoice pocket volume.

Match each product group to the smallest adequate bag size, not to the next size up.

Bag Standardization: Operational Efficiency with 2–3 Measures

Keeping a different bag size for each product creates decision fatigue and stock confusion on the packaging line. For most e-commerce brands, a three-tier structure is sufficient:

Large (L): Coat, shoebox, set items — e.g. 40×50 cm and above

Micron Selection: Balance of Cost and Protection

Using the thickest film in each shipment unnecessarily increases the unit material cost. 40 microns are generally sufficient for light shipments, 50 microns for medium weight items, and 60 microns for square or heavy items.

Minimum stock level (MSS): Calculate with the formula monthly consumption ÷ 30 × lead time (days) + safety stock.

Economic order quantity: Unit price decreases when purchasing in bulk; but do not tie up stock for more than 6 months — the risk of wastage increases in warehouse space.

ABC analysis: focus on 2–3 standard measures that make up 80% consumption; Keep rare sizes in minimum stock or remove them.

Periodic counting: Reflect the actual usage in the order plan with the monthly bag consumption report (pieces/kg).
